Hitachi Zosen Inova and PALES Join Forces to Decarbonise the Turkish Energy Industry

Acceleration to decarbonisation: Hitachi Zosen Inova and PALES to jointly deliver Turkish biogas projects. Hitachi Zosen Inova and PALES have signed a cooperation agreement. It focuses on synergies in the development and delivery of biogas and biomethane projects.

Greentech company Hitachi Zosen Inova Turkey Enerji (HZI) and PALES, a Turkish engineering and investment company specialising in plants for the production of renewable energy, will in future join forces to develop and deliver biogas and biomethane projects.

“The partnership between HZI and PALES opens up great potential synergies in terms of biogas and biomethane projects. This collaboration and the shared know-how it yields will benefit the renewable energy market in Turkey directly,” explains Stefano Boscolo, Director of Sales, Renewable Gas at HZI.

Turkey is increasingly relying on renewable energy resources for its fast-growing energy needs, a strategy favoured by rising prices for fossil natural gas and the high CO2 taxes for its industrial use. The cooperation between HZI and PALES taps into this development. The two partners want to conduct joint market studies to identify business models in the field of biogas and biomethane. On this basis they intend to develop projects and solutions that can be delivered to the satisfaction of clients within appropriate, proven project structures. The technologies required are wet and dry anaerobic digestion plants with modules for treating gas and producing biomethane using the organic fraction of municipal waste as well as agricultural and other organic waste as input material.

Last year already, HZI helped give a decisive boost to Turkey’s environmental policy efforts to achieve sustainable, environmentally friendly waste management by developing and delivering the country’s first energy-from-waste plant in Istanbul. This major infrastructure project will enable the megacity on the Bosporus to process around 15% of its solid, non-recyclable municipal waste in the plant’s three incineration lines and generate around 77 MW of electrical energy for its 16 million inhabitants.

“As PALES we have been active in biomass and biogas industry for more than 17 years. By joining our forces, HZI and PALES are aiming to develop, built and operate several biomethane projects all over Turkey and in other countries,” explains Berkin Imer, Founder and Managing Partner of PALES.

The cooperation agreement also aims to open up further business areas for biogas and methane, which can range from EPC and O&M to DBO. The cooperation partners see this as an excellent opportunity to strengthen their market position as well as to expand their range of products and services in order to offer optimal and customised solutions for the increasing demands of the energy markets.
