Bologna (ITA): The Construction of Europe’s Largest Dry Anaerobic Digestion Plant Can Begin
Europe’s largest dry anaerobic digestion plant is to be built in Bologna, Italy. The Notice to Proceed was given on Friday, March 31, 2017, so giving the green light for construction to begin. Hitachi Zosen Inova can thus now start delivery of the core modules.
Europe’s largest dry anaerobic digestion plant is to be built in Bologna, with an annual throughput of 100,000 tonnes of organic waste. The future operator, HERAmbiente SpA, announced its decision to use Hitachi Zosen Inova’s Kompogas® technology back in spring 2016. The process of obtaining the relevant permits for the project was completed in March 2017, enabling the Notice to Proceed to be signed on Friday, March 31, 2017. The project will now be executed under the lead of Cesaro Mac. Import, the exclusive partner of Kompogas® in Italy. The building site will be opened in mid-April 2017, and construction of the Kompogas® digesters is scheduled to begin in July.
Proven Technology Adding Value in the Region
Having worked together with Kompogas® several times before at plants in Faedo (TN), Novi Ligure (AL), and Nera Montoro (TR), Cesaro Mac. Import is now once again relying on the tried-and-tested Kompogas® technology for the major project in Bologna. Hitachi Zosen Inova will deliver four PF1800 steel digesters, which will process around 100,000 tonnes of organic waste from the region, producing biogas and high-grade compost. Some 14.3 million Nm3/a of biogas – with an energy content of 71.05 GWh/a – will thus be recovered and fed into the local gas grid. This will benefit, among others, the surrounding municipalities and also Bologna’s public transport company, which will use the generated biogas to fuel its fleet.
