The main residue of grate combustion is the bottom ash which is discharged at the lower end of the grate and directed to the bottom ash extractor. The bottom ash extractor provides an air seal to the combustion chamber and cools the bottom ash. We use two types of bottom ash extractors:
1. Ram-type bottom ash extractors
A hydraulically-driven ram feeds the bottom ash from the bottom ash extractor to a bottom ash conveyor. The design of the bottom ash extractor, including its inlet and discharge cross sections, allows for large pieces of bottom ash and metal to be discharged without difficulty.
2. Chain or plated belt-type bottom ash extractors
Bottom ash and grate riddlings are
discharged from the bottom ash extractor by an endless scraper chain or a plated belt. The advantage of this design is its flexibility in length.
