HZI Etogas develops and builds Power-to-Gas Plants. With power generation from renewable sources, especially solar and wind, going from strength to strength, energy production is increasingly being determined by weather conditions rather than demand for electricity. It is becoming dynamic and intermittent, on time scales ranging from seconds to weeks. Power-to-Gas therefore represents a significant economic advantage for the electricity sector. Flexible electric load management makes it possible to market green power at guaranteed prices at any time. With Power-to-Gas, electricity is taken during peak production periods and converted into gas. The power demand of a PtG plant can thus be adjusted in line with supply without any restrictions.

  • water treatment system
  • hydrogen production (alkaline pressurized electrolysis)
  • CO2 feed gas treatment
  • methanation reactor
  • cooling system
  • ancillary systems

Turnkey plant for converting electric energy into hydrogen (H2)

Modular structure, suitable for outdoor use: The electrolyzer module is delivered in a 40-foot container, with the heating and cooling interfaces in one 20-foot container and the transformer and the power electronics in another. The plant consists of the following operating modules:

  • power electronics with rectifiers (connection to medium voltage level)
  • water treatment system
  • hydrogen production (alkaline pressurized electrolysis)
  • cooling system
  • ancillary systems

Waste heat can be recovered at temperatures up to 80°C. The plant is designed in a site engineering phase.

Hydrogen-to-SNG

Innovative methanation plants for converting hydrogen and CO2 into synthetic natural gas

Plate reactors proven in chemical plant engineering are specially adapted to handle different CO2 sources. They form the integrative core of methanation plants for use in both the Power-to-Gas segment and other industries that recycle waste gases.

The ETOGAS methanation systems can be integrated individually as turnkey units in existing plant set-ups. They are adapted in line with client-side interfaces such as the educt gas supply and product gas feed-in.

The integrated cooling system of the ETOGAS methanation reactors makes it possible to supply heat in the form of steam at a temperature level of approx. 300°C at approx. 70 bar.

In addition to using the pure educt gases hydrogen and CO2, ETOGAS methanation reactors make it possible in particular to use biogenic gas mixtures (raw biogas, sewage gas) as well as other CO2-methane mixtures and other industrial sources of CO2 (e.g. production of steel, cement, and lime).
